A display version of the 100,000 Dollar Gold Certificate bearing the image of 28th US president Woodrow Wilson is displayed at the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) August 23, 2012 in Washington, DC. The highest denomination of US currency ever printed, only 42,000 were printed. They were used only for transactions between the Federal Reserve and the Treasury Department and not issued for public circulation. When the Government stopped using them in the early 1960s, most were destroyed. Although a few have survived, they are in fact illegal to own. AFP PHOTO/Paul J.
