LAMPEDUSA ISLAND, ITALY - SEPTEMBER 15: Migrants are seen entering in the ferry outside of the hotspot as nearly 7,000 irregular migrants arrive in Lampedusa island of Italy on September 15, 2023. Located on the Mediterranean route leading from Africa to Europe, Lampedusa welcomed 5,112 irregular migrants on Tuesday, and the flow continued even at night with over a thousand more, according to state-run news agency ANSA. After a group of Lampedusans protested against the arrival of the migrants with a sit-in outside the town hall later in the day, the Lampedusa City Council held an emergency meeting and declared a state of emergency on the island. People working in the humanitarian assistance are facing increasing difficulties in transferring and hosting people in the hotspot, which could normally host 400 migrants. Local and regional authorities asked help from the Italian Government to deal with the emergency situation. (Photo by Valeria Ferraro/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
