Hurricane Gustav weakened to a category one storm after it crashed ashore in Louisiana west of New Orleans, the National Hurricane Center said. The center said the storm's winds had fallen to 145 kilometers (90 miles) per hour and that it was expected to weaken further as it moved inland.
