The girl kidnapped eight years ago aged 10 has been found and identified by her family while her alleged abductor committed suicide, police believe, resolving one of the country's longest-running mysteries. Austrian police said 24 August that a young woman found wandering aimlessly in a Vienna suburb had been identified as the kidnapped girl. The woman identified herself as Natascha Kampusch, whose abduction in 1998 while she was on the way to school provoked national anguish and one of the most intensive police investigations in Austrian history.
