The "supermoon" rises over the Pilgrims sculpture at the top of the Monte do Gozo in Santiago de Compostela, on November 14, 2016. The phenomenon happens when the moon is full at the same time as, or very near, perigee -- its closest point to Earth on an elliptical, monthly orbit.
