The Beltsville Agricultural Research Center in Beltsville, Maryland has its gates locked because the Agriculture Department reported August 30, 2016 it had closed offices in five states after receiving anonymous threats that it considered serious.
US Department of Agriculture spokesman Matthew Herrick said in a statement that the department had received several anonymous messages late August 29, 2016 that raised concerns about the safety of USDA personnel and facilities. He said six offices were closed Tuesday morning until further notice. The closed facilities are in Fort Collins, Colorado; Hamden, Connecticut; Beltsville, Maryland; Raleigh, North Carolina; Kearneysville, West Virginia and Leetown, West Virginia. / AFP / JIM WATSON (Photo credit should read JIM WATSON/AFP/Getty Images)
