GALUFU, MALAWI - NOVEMBER 14: Egly Raphael, age 19, lays in pain on the floor of the family house on November 14, 2005 in Galufu, Malawi. The family suspects that she has HIV/Aids. Egly cannot eat anymore and the family wants to take her to a hospital. Her older sister Hilda Rafael, age 32, died a month earlier to HIV/Aids. Hilda, the older sister, left two children. The grandmother now has to take care of the orphans without any income. The village has seen an increase in poverty the last few years due to drought and HIV/Aids. Southern Africa has been hit by a severe hunger crisis due to drought and poverty and government policies. An ever-increasing HIV/Aids rate adds to the misery. Malawi is one of the worst hit areas and Galufu village is a typical small village that has become victim of this poverty spiral. (Photo by Per-Anders Pettersson/Getty Images)
