(Original Caption) After an absence from England of nearly three years, the Duke of Windsor is pictured above on his return to his homeland with his American-born Duchess, for whom he gave up a kingdom. The Duke, who returned to serve his country in the war against Germany, and the Duchess are seen here at the home of Major Edward Dudley Metcalfe, at Coleman's Hatch, Ashdown Forest, Sussex, England, where they have taken up residence. Major Metcalfe was equerry to the Duke in 1923 when he was the Prince of Wales, and his A.D.C. during his Indian and Japanese tours in 1921-22.
