HONG KONG, CHINA: Chinese President Jiang Zemin inspects the People's Liberation Army (PLA) garrison in Hong Kong 02 July for the first time since the territory became a part of China on 01 July of last year. The 71-year old president was welcomed by a brass band when he arrived at the Stonecutters Island naval base in Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour. Jiang came to Hong Kong for the celebrations of the first anniversary of Chinese rule in Hong Kong and to open the new airport.
