A French team (TREDI) specialized in the treatment of toxic waste fills plastic bags with polluted soil in the dump of Akouedo in Abidjan 21 September 2006. In mid-August some 500 tonnes of highly toxic waste was dumped on 14 open-air rubbish tips around Abidjan, Ivory Coast's economic capital. Seven people have since died and thousands of others been poisoned. Doctors have received more than 37,000 calls for medical help.
