Opponents to the controversial project for the creation of an international airport hold banners as they protest in front of the courthouse of Nantes, western France, on January 13, 2016, during the hearing of families and farmers living at the site who received expulsion orders.

The project involves transferring Nantes Atlantique airport to a 1,650-hectare (4,000-acre) site of protected swampland just outside the city, which developers say will provide a major boost to tourism in western France but has been repeatedly delayed due to fierce opposition by environmental protesters. Banner read "No trial no expulsion" and "Notre-+Dame-des-Landes culture of the resistances". / AFP / JEAN-SEBASTIEN EVRARD (Photo credit should read JEAN-SEBASTIEN EVRARD/AFP via Getty Images)
