According to witnesses groups of men who seemed of Arab or North African origin surrounded passing women and groped at their breasts and between their legs. Some women also report being robbed and one has filed a charge of rape. The incident has caused an uproar across Germany with leading politicians and even Chancellor Angela Merkel demanding a thorough investigation and swift arrests. The incident has fueled the debate over migrants and refugees though police claim there is so far little evidence to show that refugees were among the culprits.
