Harfan, a male Sumatran tiger born in 2008, is presented to the public for the first time at Berlin's Tierpark zoo March 27, 2014. Harfan, and female Sumatran tiger Mayang, born in 2011, are on loan from Indonesia Taman Safari zoo, for conservation purposes and in the hope that they will produce offspring. The Sumatran tiger is a rare tiger subspecies that inhabits the Indonesian island of Sumatra and is classified as critically endangered with between 350 to 450 individuals left.
