Bosnia, Sarajevo - September 1994. War damaged high rise apartment blocks in Sarajevo. The area was known as Heroes Square because of the intense fighting and shelling which made it very dangerous for people to live there. During the 47 months between the spring of 1992 and February 1996, the people of Sarajevo endured the longest siege Europe has witnessed since the end of the Second World War. More than 10,600 people were killed with a further 56,000 wounded or maimed.
