In September 1970, King Hussein of Jordan decided to put an end to the Palestinian Liberation Organization's state-within-a-state in Jordan as well as its guerilla attacks on Israeli-occupied Arab territory in the West Bank and ordered the Jordanian military to launch attacks to push the PLO out of Jordan.
