A University of Cape Town (UCT) student and member of SHAWCO, one of the largest student volunteer driven organisations in Africa, works with a child from Manenberg Primary School on the Cape Flats as part of their Mandela Day community service. Mandela Day is held on Nelson Mandela's birthday as people around the world are encouraged to perform 67 minutes of community service to honor the 67 years that Nelson Mandela fought for racial and social equality. Nelson Mandela remains in a critical but stable condition after being admitted to a Pretoria hospital on June 8, 2013 for a recurring lung infection.
