NOV 8 1963, NOV 13 1963; Ouch! Doc, That Hurts; Paul Witzen, 11, of 7508 Canosa Court, a sixth grader at Skyline Elementary School in Adams County District 50, makes an appropriate face while he gets his smallpox vaccination from Dr. Kenneth Platt who has donated time to vaccinate school children for 10 years. The shots are available through cooperation of the district, the Tri-County Health Department, and the Clear Creek Medical Society. In the three mornings about 1,500 children at the 16 schools received 2,300 doses in smallpox and diphtheria-tetanus vaccines. Emphasis this year has been on smallpox because of recent scares after reports of cases brought into the United States.; (Photo By Bill Johnson/The Denver Post via Getty Images)
