A life size statue of US President Abraham Lincoln stands in front of the entrance to his summer retreat where he lived during a quarter of his presidency and commuted to the White House on horse back on August 12, 2010 on the property of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in the NE section of Washington, DC. President Lincoln's Cottage is considered the most significant historic site directly associated with Lincoln's presidency aside from the White House. During the Civil War, President Lincoln and his family resided here from June to November of 1862, 1863 and 1864.
