A project assistant at the Makerere University uses a blowtorch to fix the "Kiira EV", the first electric car built in Uganda on June 23, 2011 in Kampala. The project, which is mainly run by students, received funding from the Ugandan government to produce a working case study till September this year and maybe create a bigger vehicle later on, that might end up on the streets of Kampala. From lengthy waits for parts to be delivered, to working out ways to charge the car despite Uganda's unstable power supply, Musasizi and his team of 15 graduate and undergraduate students at Kampala's Makerere University admit it has not been easy.
