Pupils at the Olympic primary school in Nairobi work in class on September 7, 2011 without a teacher on the third day of a teachers' strike organized by the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) protesting the diversion to the Defense Ministry of funds intended to hire more teachers and ease classroom overcrowding. An estimated 79,000 teachers are needed to reach the internationally recommended teacher to student ratio of one to 35. In many Kenyan public schools there are more than 50 students for every teacher. AFP PHOTO / SIMON MAINA (Photo credit should read SIMON MAINA/AFP via Getty Images)
