The beach cleaning was organized by the "Sons of Oceans," an association of surfers and environmentalists. Together with professors and researchers from the University of Pisa, the Tor Vergata University of Rome and in collaboration with Thalassa Marine Research and Science Communication, brand audits were conducted on the plastic waste collected on the beach to determine which brands were present. Fifty plastic garbage bags were filled with plastic and micro-plastics that were collected in over two hours from a 200 meter area.
