A photo taken on September 17, 2008 shows fighters of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) as they prepare for an operation against the Nigerian army in the Niger Delta. Nigeria's Nigeria's most prominent militant group MEND on June 3, 2011 threatened to attack facilities of the Italian oil firm Eni in the country accusing it of "theft" and of backing NATO-led air raids on Libya. The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) in an emailed statement blamed Eni of "theft" of oil in the southern oil-rich region and aiding a special Nigerian military unit deployed there.
