DARLINGTON, SC - MAY 9, 1970: After crashing his ÒSuperbirdÓ in practice, Richard Petty moved into his short-track Plymouth Roadrunner to run the Rebel 400 NASCAR Cup race at Darlington Raceway. Petty lost control of his ill-handling car on lap 176 and slammed into the inside retaining wall, knocking a portion of it down before the car flipped several times. Despite the severity of the crash, Petty suffered only a broken shoulder, but missed the next five Cup races while he healed. (Photo by ISC Images & Archives via Getty Images)
