The magazine has revealed that one of its prize-winning reporters, Claas Relotius, fabricated a number of stories he wrote for the magazine for years. The fabrications came to light following the investigative work of one its own reporters into a story Relotius wrote about a militia in the United States that patrols the border to Mexico. The magazine, in a lengthy article published on its website, goes on to write that Relotius, after initially denying the charges, has since admitted to lengthy fabrications of people, events and circumstances in that story as well as others, including stories for which he received journalistic awards.
