The Belgian Grand Prix;,Spa-Francorchamps, June 5, 1955. The Doctor in his office: Farina rounds the La Source hairpin at the top of the pit straight. The Ferrari team of Farina, Paul Frère and Maurice Trintignant all had the Super Squalo' cars, an unsuccessful derivative of the 1954 version, which were no match for the latest Mercedes. The surprise of practice had been Eugenio Castellotti on the lone Lancia D-50 (Alberto Ascari having been killed while testing Castellottis Ferrari at Monza shortly after his dive into the Monaco harbor with his Lancia). He snatched the pole ahead of the Mercedes of Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss, with Farina in the second row. The race was a Mercedes benefit with Fangio and Moss running 1-2 straight through.
