John Paul Getty Jr. died 17 April, 2003 after being admitted to the London Clinic to treat a recurring infection. The American-born philanthropist and billionaire became a British citizen late in his life and was given full honors as the Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 1998.
