Local residents Binetou Coulibaly (L) and Ndeye Khady Coulibaly remove weeds in the micro garden of Derkle social center at Dakar on January 12, 2016.
The micro gardening, a Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations initiative to increase agricultural supplies, gets more and more successful in Dakar. On rooftops and terraces of several houses, grow on wooden tables plants daily consumed by people trying to escape the high cost of food on markets. Cabbages, salads, mint and other vegetables are grown on little spaces by urban populations, mainly women.
