Sir Alfred Milner, British statesman, 1900. Milner (1854-1925) was Governor of the Cape Colony and High Commissioner to Southern Africa from 1897-1901, before serving as Governor of the Transvaal and the Orange River Colony after the end of the Boer War. He served as Secretary of State for War in the British government in the final year of the First World War and as Secretary of State for the Colonies from 1919-1923.
