Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945), 32nd President of the USA 1932-1945, c1943. Roosevelt served an unprecedented four terms as President. He was first elected in 1932 at the height of the Depression. He set about tackling the economic and social crisis with a range of policy measures collectively known as the New Deal. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour on 7 December 1941, described by Roosevelt as 'a day that will live in infamy', he led the USA into World War II against the Axis Powers.
