Chelsea have agreed to sign Czech international Petr Cech from French first division club Rennes at the end of the season, the player's agent Zika said 19 January 2004 in Prague. The 6ft 5ins (1.96 metre) keeper will sign a five-year contract with the London club in July 2004. Zika gave no financial detail of the deal, but Czech press reports put the transfer fee at around 13 million euros (16 million dollars). Chelsea have spent 111 million pounds (191 million dollars) on players since the club owner Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich bought the club for 140 million pounds July 2003.
