One of the leaders of the gang known as "mara salvatrucha" shows his tatoos after being arrested by police 24 July, 2003 in a poor neighborhood of the outskirts of San Salvador during an operation called "Firm hand". The operation was ordered by President Francico Flores trying to eradicate gang activities. At least these gangs kill 100 people per month, according to police.
