The building of the National Assembly in Quito remains closed on September 30, 2010. Ecuador was plunged into crisis Thursday as Air Force troops seized the main airport and police stormed the Congress, forcing the government to declare a state of emergency and denounce an attempted coup. The country's military chief ordered renegade police to end an uprising against the government and surrender, as the country was thrown into turmoil by the crisis.
